Heritage gives a place character, and recognisable landmarks. Morriston town centre has been built and rebuilt for over 250 years, and all these building styles and types can be found throughout the town, from the magnificent Grade 1 listed Tabernacle Chapel, the iconic St John’s Church ‘in the middle of the road’ and many others.
We see our local heritage as a great asset, and as far as possible, original features are retained in our buildings. If you agree, you are going to like working in these buildings.
65 Woodfield Street is a large building providing open places spaces on the ground and first floors. Built of local materials, from copper slag breeze blocks to Graig Morriston brick, you are sitting in the fabric of the Lower Swansea Valley. Previously Uriel Rees Iron Mongers, B&S Spares, and furniture or carpet shops, the building is now arranged as flexible workspace. The large first floor windows give great views towards Kilvey Hill and the surrounding valleys, a great space for a meeting or just to sit and read or work. The iconic ‘Will’s Gold Flake’ advert dating back to the 1930s greets everyone that drives into the town. The B&S Spares signage is retained inside the building. The original external timber signage has been brought inside for repair, and was actually painted over the original Uriel Rees ironmongers paintwork. The signage will be reinstated in the near future. Doorways and windows that have been hidden for decades are being restored and opened up.
91 Woodfield Street is said to be the oldest building on Woodfield Street, dating back to the 1780s, one of the original workers cottages. A small but comfortable space to complement the larger areas available in 65 Woodfield Street. The ground floor retail space is available for short term low cost hire if you want to try out a new business idea.
Both buildings are subject to continuous improvement as funds permit, with period features being retained and reinstated over time. It’s an expensive job, so please bear with us!
